6th Avenue Elementary School

WEST ADAMS DISTRICT | LOS ANGELES CA

AWARDED | Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA-USA) Diverse City International Touring Exhibition

DESIGN  |  Influenced by the vernacular style of school and civic buildings (many funded by PWA) constructed during the 30's and 40's in LA. Utilitarian in nature, with 'stripped classicism' hallmarks of simple geometry, modest ornamentation, 'democratic' gregariousness

GOAL | Relieve over-crowding in LA public schools

CONSTRAINTS | Mandated classroom sizes with fixed furniture & cabinetry configurations; very tight, "no frills" budget

CLIENT | Los Angeles Unified School District, Mike Talle OAR

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER | Johnson Leifield

MEP ENGINEER | Storms + Lowe

CIVIL ENGINEER | PA Arca Engineering
